In olden days, Roehampton and particularly Putney were held up as a sanctuary for those living in the city on account of its clean living but still close proximity to town so as to maintain good communications. Over the years nothing has really changed, fields and market gardens may have made way for housing, but we still have in abundance all the things that the Elizabethans loved about being here.
